Chat that lives next to the work.
Team chat with public and private channels and direct messages, right beside your tasks and docs. Make a task from any message, and keep a conversation open while you work.
Channels and direct messages.
Public channels anyone in the workspace can find and join, private channels only their members can read, and direct messages with 1 to 7 people.
- Unread counts on each conversation and in the sidebar
- Mute a conversation to stop its notifications
- Archive a channel to keep it, read-only
New channel
Talk about one topic, client or project.
Keep chatting while you work.
Open conversations as chat windows at the bottom right. They stay open as you move between pages: minimise them, open the full page, or keep up to three side by side on a wide screen.
- Unsent drafts are kept for each conversation in your browser
- See who is typing
- On a phone, the Chat page does the same job
Make a task from any message.
When a message is really work, make it a task in one step. The task quotes the message and links back to it, and the message shows the task.
- Type # to point to a task, or [[ to link anything
- Mentions only reach people who can read the conversation
- Every file sent in a conversation is in its Files panel
The basics a team chat needs.
@mentions, plus @channel and @here
Reactions, and Markdown: bold, lists, quotes and code
Files and pictures, by paperclip, drag and drop or paste
Send a file that’s already in TaskCrew without copying it
Unread counts on every conversation
Mute a conversation
Archived channels you can still read
Edit or delete your own messages
Notifications by email, chat apps or push that say who and where, never the message
AI stays out of your conversations.
AI teammates and API tokens can’t read chat. When a conversation turns into work, make it a task and give the task to a teammate, where you can watch every step.
- Paste the notes into a task, and Meeting Notes → Action Items lists decisions and owners
- Email & Announcement Drafter turns a decision into a clear announcement
- Point to a task with # and everyone sees its live status
AI teammates that fit this page

meeting_notesDrafts clear emails and announcements with the right tone and a strong subject line.
purpose recipientsConversations that lead somewhere.
Tasks
Make a task from a message, or point to one with # and see its live status.
Links to anything
Type [[ to link a page, record or file. It shows as a live card.
Notifications
Mentions and direct messages notify you like any other update: pop-up, email, chat apps or push.
Files & media
Pick a file that’s already in TaskCrew and send it, without making a copy.
One workspace. Everything connects.
It’s always clear who can read a conversation.
Questions, answered
Can it replace Slack?
For many small teams, yes: channels, direct messages, mentions, files, reactions and chat windows next to the work. Here is what it doesn’t do yet: threads, search inside chat, and chat for guests or AI teammates. If you rely on those, or on Slack’s own apps, keep Slack. TaskCrew can send its notifications there through a webhook.
Does chat have threads?
Not yet. Reply in the conversation, or make a task from the message and carry on in the task’s comments, which do have threads, reactions and resolve.
Can I search old messages?
Not yet. Older messages load as you scroll up. Workspace search covers tasks, comments, pages, table rows and the words inside files, but not chat.
Is chat free?
Yes. Chat is in every plan, including Free for up to 5 people. See pricing.
Who can read a private channel?
Only the people in it. Workspace admins can’t read a private channel or a direct message unless they’re in it. Guests have no chat at all.
